Howard A. Belter, 73, of Milton, WI passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Mercy Hospital & Trauma Center, Janesville. Howard was born on March 10, 1940 in Baraboo, WI, the son of Ferdinand and Margaret (Zuch) Belter. He grew up  in the Baraboo area and moved to Janesville in 1958 when he began working for General Motors. Howard was a U. S. Army veteran and served from March 26, 1962 to March 12, 1965.  He married Shirley Borkenhagen on July 26, 1969. He retired from General Motors in 1999 after over 41 years of employment. Howard was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and U.A. W. Local # 95. In past years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and playing cards.
Howard Belter is survived by his wife, Shirley, two sons, Mark (Rhonda) Belter of Brodhead, WI, John (Stephanie) Belter of Baraboo, four grandchildren, Madeline, Mackenna, Leah and Emily, one brother, Jim (Joyce) Belter of Oregon, WI. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Harold, Martin, Robert “Fritz”, Donald and Duane Belter.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2013 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 2921 Mt. Zion Avenue, Janesville with Pastor Guy Vogel officiating. Military rites by Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post # 1621 will follow the memorial service at the church. Private interment will be at a later date at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Baraboo, WI. The family is being assisted by Henke-Clarson Funeral Home.
